Early 20th century postcards.
The famous picture of Peter Buck stalking a Moa was taken whilst a student at Otago University. The Moa was borrowed from the Otago Museum and the picture staged at Woodhaugh Gardens.
Sir Peter Buck (Te Rangi Hiroa), a graduate of Te Aute College and Otago University became Maoridom's greatest scholar. The mana of the Maori people was augmented by his work in the international community of scholars in the first half of the 20th century. His publications include: The Vikings of the Sun and The Coming of the Maori.

Sir Peter Buck (Te Rangi Hiroa) & Koroneho Hemi Papakakura stalking a Moa. The mock hunt was staged at Woodhough Gardens, Dunedin, while Sir Peter was a student.
The Moa was reconstructed from a skeleton by Augustus Hamilton, then registrar of Otago University.
