ATKINSON, Born Wellington, 1888, grandson of painter and politician J.C. Richmond and nephew of painter D.K. Richmond. Atkinson was a self-taught artist. He studied botany and worked for the Department of Agriculture in the Dominion Museum, Wellington (1928-32), as the official artist.
His watercolours were reproduced in single plates for New Zealand Flowers and Fruits, 1958.
He exhibited with the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts from 1906, the Centennial Exhibition, and was represented in NAG (National Art Gallery) and the Hocken Library.
