ABOUT THE PUBLICATION / EDITOR / ARTIST
Monograph of the PETRELS, 1907-1910
AUTHOR: Frederic du Cane GODMAN (1834–1919)
PUBLISHER: London, Witherby & Co, 1907-1910
It is the most famous and spectacular of all publications on true seabirds and still an important reference. Issued in five parts, 1907-1910, in printed gray paper covers.
The plates were coloured by the daughters of Richard Bowdler Sharpe, co-author, along with Henry Dresser of the earlier volumes of The History of The Birds of Europe
An avid collector, Godman's private collection of specimens, which he donated to the British Museum, approached 200,000 in number.
He was also one of the eight founders of the British Ornithologists' Union.
